Kaeser at the 2006 Winter Olympics

pressinfo

The Olympic sporting venues in Turin and the southwestern Alps are not always covered in snow. This year event organizers chose to give nature a helping hand by using snow cannons from leading manufacturer ‘Techno Alpin’ from Bolzano, Italy.  These specialized cannons use high quality compressed air from German-based project partner Kaeser Kompressoren to ensure optimal snow cover at all times.

Artificial snow is made by using compressed air to spray water through high-pressure nozzles at below-freezing temperatures below freezing point. However, strict environmental protection regulations stipulate strict quality requirements for the compressed air.  Therefore, in close co-operation with snow cannon manufacturers and system planners, Kaeser has developed complete compressed air packages specifically designed for the booming snowmaking industry.

Each Kaeser “Sigma Snow System” turnkey package includes a rotary screw compressor, clean air treatment and temperature control device. Kaeser’s considerable expertise and experience in this field have made the Coburg-based company one of the leading forces in the art of artificial snowmaking. No matter what Mother Nature has in store, complete compressed air systems from Kaeser guarantee winter fun from Spain to Russia - and everywhere in between. Kaeser also has special snowfall simulation systems for climate wind tunnels at Arsenal Research - Vienna, Austria; Volkswagen in Wolfsburg, Germany; and the BMW-Sauber Formula 1 team headquarters in Hinwil, Switzerland.

Nine “Sigma Snow System” compressed air packages from Kaeser will ensure excellent skiing conditions for the competitors at the 2006 Winter Olympics. Artificial snowmaking for the Winter Olympic ski-runs and tracks requires approximately 1200 cubic feet of compressed air per minute.
